LED-backlit interactive displays are energy-efficient. Consumption depends most on size, brightness and operating hours.
How to calculate it
The manufacturer lists operating power consumption (in watts) in the datasheet. Annual consumption is: power (kW) × hours per day × working days. Example: a 0.2 kW display used 6 hours a day for 190 school days uses about 228 kWh a year.
What affects consumption
- size – a bigger screen draws more power,
- brightness – automatic brightness control lowers consumption,
- operating hours – a display left on during breaks and after lessons wastes electricity,
- OPS computer – adds its own power draw.
How to save
- set automatic sleep and shutdown after lessons,
- enable the light sensor if the display has one,
- manage displays centrally – many brands offer remote management.
Frequently asked questions
Does an interactive display use more electricity than a projector?
Comparable or less, depending on the model. A display also needs no lamp replacements.
