For years, an interactive whiteboard with a projector was the school standard. Today it is increasingly replaced by an interactive display.
Key differences
| Interactive display | Whiteboard + projector | |
|---|---|---|
| Image | bright, high contrast, readable with lights on | depends on projector brightness and room dimming |
| Teacher’s shadow | none | with standard-throw projectors |
| Calibration | not needed | periodically |
| Running costs | no lamps or filters | lamp or light source, filters |
| Computer | built-in system, optional OPS | needs a laptop |
| Image size | up to 110 inch | can be larger |
When to choose a display
In classrooms where lessons take place under normal lighting and students often work at the board. A display needs no calibration or lamp replacement.
When to choose a projector
In very large rooms and auditoriums that need an image larger than 110 inch. More in the guide display or projector.
Frequently asked questions
Will an interactive display replace a chalkboard?
The display is usually mounted next to or instead of the board. Many schools keep dry-erase boards on either side of the display.
